Tony Cochrane

I love being a part of VITA as we really get to know our clients and provide a traditional service, helping navigate through a complex labyrinth of VAT issues, risks, and opportunities.
— Tony

Tony joined as an Associate Director in 2025 bringing close to 20 years of experience in VAT advisory services.  Having began his career at HMRC he successfully transferred into the private sector and brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Tony is a Chartered Tax Adviser, Associate of the Institute of Indirect Tax, and a member of the ICAS VAT committee.

Tony’s Specialisms

Tony is a VAT specialist with significant experience of land and property transactions, international supply strategy, reviews and managing HMRC reviews and communications.

He has a lot of niche technical specialist knowledge and practical application for insolvency and public sector VAT rules, stemming from extensive work with IPs and his experience supporting the Scottish Government and other large UK public sector bodies.

Tony delivers an individualised approach to client care, integrating shared decision making and collaboration to achieve the best possible VAT strategy.

Tony is a member of the ICAS VAT committee and is the regular presenter at ICAS VAT webinars. He has also presented a VAT update for the ICAS Insolvency and Restructuring annual conference. Tony has also been invited to write articles for tax and mainstream media channels.

Other Interests

Tony loves eating out and travel; too much of the former, not enough of the latter. He enjoys weekends at Loch Lomond and is a Glasgow Clan Ice Hockey season ticket holder. Tony feels that watching the Clan for 10 years must have developed his resilience skills.

He also likes buying books (albeit he only reads a fraction of them) and watching cheesy action films – some so bad even the cast publicly slate them.
